Video making competition

On the occasion of International Women’s’ Day, Centre for Women’s Studies, Department of Political Science and Department of Sociology organized a video making competition. To commemorate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the event focused on the development of women in terms of their electoral performance in 75 years of Independence. The competition was based on the following themes: participation of women in electoral process, participation of women in democratic governance and role of media in strengthening democracy. The duration of the videos was 2 to 3 minutes and the students used graphics, music and animation along with showcasing their ideas and opinions through short speech and powerpoint tools. The competition was conducted online using google forms. The entries were judged on the parameters of presentation, appropriate content, novelty and originality. The judges were Prof. Sharad Rathore, Prof. Nisha Yadav and Dr. Archana Gupta. The following students received the prizes:

  1. First prize: Ms Meghna Chakravarti- B.A. (Hons.) Sem IV: in her presentation, she show in nationalist process, women suffrage and women’s role in electoral process as a voter and as a candidate. She stressed that despite the highest turnout of women in latest Lok Sabha elections, the situation still needs more efforts and more recognition of women’s role in electoral process.
  2. Second Prize: Niyah Shukla- B.A. (Hons) Sem IV: obstacles in women’s political participation, strategies that can lead to promote gender equality in electoral process. She said that the foundations of women’s role in electoral processes was laid during the Freedom Movement itself and the Constitution also reaffirmed the importance of women’s participation by giving equal rights, yet united efforts to create electoral spaces for women are still missing.
  3. Third prize: Ms. Rohini Rathore- BJMC- Sem II: through an excellent use of animation, she showcased the role of media in electoral  process and political education in the country. She said that the media acts as a bridge between the people and their representatives, forwarding the demands and aspirations of the people to political parties and schemes and provisions for public welfare to the people in turn.
