The objectives of this course are to: 1. Develop understanding of competing regional aspirations and how it has shaped contemporary rhetoric’s and policy orientations in Indian politics. 2. Acquaint the students with a holistic overview of the process of interaction between society and politics in contemporary India

Ram Manohar Lohia: Chaukhamba Rajya, liberty, equality and democracy, concept of federalism, confederation of India and Pakistan, Non alignment, language problem, attitude towards Marxism. J.P. Narain: Views on Nationalism, Socialism, Sarvodaya, Total Revolution, reconstruction of Indian polity, Qualities of a true democrat, parliamentary democracy, party less democracy

B. R. Ambedkar : Social views- Hindu social order, caste system, position of women, social reforms, untouchability, Political ideas- state, form of government, rights and freedoms of citizens, successful democracy, Role in constitution making.

Subhash Chandra Bose: philosophical foundation of political ideas, reflections upon Indian history, triumphant patriotism, nationalist realism, political ideas of Forward Bloc.
