The students of the IIS University attended a comprehensive workshop focused on the Rajasthan Elections and Opinion poll on 21st September, 2023. This enlightening event was a collaborative effort by the Departments of Political Science and International Relations, Journalism and Mass Communication, History, and Public Administration. Dr Shipra Mathur welcomed the guests also talked about why it is needed to know about the pre-election atmosphere and pre-election dialogues among general common voters and citizens.The workshop start with the inaugural note of Dr Ruchi Goswami. She highlight the importance of the opinion poll in Indian political society and also indicate the emerging trends of it in India .
The highlight of the workshop was the guest lectures delivered by two distinguished speakers: Shri Pradeep Bidawat commenced the session by providing a meticulous overview of the mechanics behind opinion polls. He delved into the intricacies of conducting polls, explaining methodologies, sampling techniques, and the inherent challenges faced in ensuring their accuracy. He also stressed the pivotal role of precise data collection and its subsequent analysis in gauging public opinion effectively. Subsequently, Shri Shripal Shaktawat took the stage, steering the discourse towards the imminent Rajasthan elections. His presentation was enriched by historical context, as he cited examples from past elections to elucidate the complex landscape of voting behaviour. He artfully elucidated the multifaceted factors influencing voter decisions, including caste affiliations, religious considerations, economic issues, and regional dynamics. His insights illuminated the intricate web of electoral decision-making.
Following these enlightening lectures, the workshop took on an interactive dimension. Students from various departments actively engaged with the subject matter, posing pertinent questions and seeking clarifications. This spirited exchange allowed participants to deepen their comprehension of opinion polls, voting patterns, and the nuanced political milieu of Rajasthan. In the latter part of the workshop, discussions revolved around the practical application of the knowledge garnered during the session. Students actively brainstormed and debated the methodologies and logistics of conducting an opinion poll within the university. This exercise was designed to empower students to translate theoretical insights into real-world scenarios, bridging the gap between theory and practice. The session is concluded by Dr Archana Gupta by the vote of thanks. She present her gratitude to the two distinguished speakers for delivering informative session on most current topic and make aware the students about the techniques and strategy of opinion poll.
In conclusion, the workshop proved to be an enlightening and engaging event. It not only equipped students with invaluable insights into the inner workings of opinion polls and voting behaviour but also provided a platform for them to actively participate in the discussion. The guest lectures by Shri Shripal Shaktawat and Shri Pradeep Bidawat, coupled with the interactive sessions and practical discussions, underscored the university's commitment to fostering critical thinking and holistic education. This workshop was, indeed, a successful information-sharing session that left attendees with a richer understanding of the subject matter. The workshop served as an invaluable platform for students to delve into the intricacies of opinion polls and gain insights into the forthcoming Rajasthan elections, including the dynamics of voting behavior.
