The event was held to commemorate the anniversary of the Pulwama attack, which took place on the same date in 2019. The screening served not only as a tribute to the martyrs of the Indian armed forces but also as an educational activity to instill a sense of patriotism and awareness among the students regarding national security and the valor of the Indian military.
Operation Valentine is a powerful and gripping war drama inspired by true events. It focuses on the retaliation carried out by the Indian Air Force in response to the tragic Pulwama terrorist attack, in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives. The movie showcases the bravery, strategic precision, and emotional strength of Indian soldiers and airmen, particularly highlighting the planning and execution of the Balakot airstrike, which was India's firm response to the heinous terrorist act.
Pulwama is a district in Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is located in a valley in the state, and is surrounded by the districts of Srinagar, Budgam, Poonch, and Anantnag. The region has a strategic location and geopolitical significance. However, 2019 marked the event with blood when 40 of our brave CRPF personnel were martyred. To commemorate the 6th anniversary of the brave soldiers and pay tribute, the Department of Political Science and International Relations orgainsed a Movie screening session to make the students aware and informed. On 14th February, a special movie screening of Operation Valentine was organized at the university campus as part of a patriotic awareness initiative.
The screening began at 10.00 am in the A V Hall, which was filled to capacity with students, faculty members, and staff. Before the movie began, a brief introductory session was given by Vanshika Jain, student of MA IR (SEM II) gave a deep insight of the “Dark Valentine’s Day” which left the nation in shock. The session provided background information on the Pulwama attack, the geopolitical situation at that time, and the importance of understanding such national security events from both a civic and emotional perspective.
Throughout the film, the audience remained deeply engaged. The intense visuals, emotional storylines, and realistic depiction of air force operations evoked a strong sense of pride and respect for the armed forces. Many students expressed how the movie gave them a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by Indian defense personnel and the critical importance of military preparedness and strategic retaliation.
After the screening, an open discussion was held where students shared their thoughts and feelings about the movie. Some spoke about how the film helped them realize the level of coordination and courage it takes to execute such high-risk missions. Others highlighted the emotional toll it takes on the soldiers and their families. The event successfully fostered a spirit of national pride, emotional connection to the sacrifices made by the armed forces, and increased awareness of India’s defense operations.
In conclusion, the screening of Operation Valentine on 14th February was not just a cinematic experience but a meaningful educational activity. It provided students with valuable insights into how the Indian armed forces respond to acts of terrorism with courage, precision, and determination. The university's initiative to conduct such an event was highly appreciated by the student body and faculty alike, making it a memorable and impactful experience.
