Objective of the workshop/seminar/activity:   Develop critical thinking skills by engaging with real-world examples of policy-making and government decision-making processes.

Summary/Description (max 500 words): 

To enhance students' understanding of international organizations, their roles and responsibilities and challenges in maintaining global peace, security, and cooperation, for development of critical thinking, research and presentation the department of political science at IIS university hosted a student seminar on title “International Organizations: Roles and Challenges”  providing a platform for students of MA Political Science on 14th October 2024 to engage with experts and peers on global governance and cooperation. The event explored the functions, significance, and current issues faced by international organizations in global governance.

An international organization, also known as an intergovernmental organization or an international institution, is an organization that is established by a treaty or other type of instrument governed by international law and possesses its own legal personality, such as the United Nations, the World Health Organization, International Union for Conservation of Nature, and BRICS. International organizations are composed of primarily member states, but may also include other entities, such as other international organizations, firms, and non-governmental organisations.

During the seminar, the students of Department presented the seminar on various international organizations. Dr. Archana Gupta (HOD of department) delivered an insightful lecture on the evolution and significance of international organisations. The students of Sem I & III of Post-Graduate of Political Science and International Relations gave impressive présentation and made detailed description on Numbers of international on topics

     Students also discussed challenges faced by international organizations, including Global governance and decision-making, Conflict resolution and peacekeeping, Human rights and humanitarian crises Climate change and sustainable development Funding and resource allocation

 Then, students engaged in a thought-provoking Q&A session, exploring solutions to challenges faced by international organisations.

The seminar successfully achieved its objective, providing a platform for students to engage with international organisations' roles and challenges. The Department of Political Science plans to organise similar events to promote academic excellence and global awareness.
