Objective of the workshop/seminar/activity:   To make the students oriented about the tough the nuclear test conducted by Indian Army in Pokhran, Rajasthan in 1998.

Summary/Description (max 500 words): 

 The Dept of Political Science & International Relations of the IIS University organized the movie screening ‘Parmanu’ on 13th August, 2023. The movie was screened in the AV Hall where near about 80-100 students of department participated with great enthusiasm and fascination for the movie screening.

The movie ‘Parmanu’ is link to the historical event which is name as Pokhran-II refers to a sequence of five nuclear bomb test explosions conducted by India on between 11-13th May 1998 at Rajasthan's Pokhran desert. Code name - Operation Shakti, this event marked India's 2nd successful attempt. Pokhran-II cemented India's status as a nuclear power.

It demonstrated India's ability to possess and deploy nuclear weapons, thus enhancing its deterrence capabilities. The Indian government led by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee officially declared itself as a state possessing nuclear weapons following Pokhran-II.

This movie provides an elaborate perception to the students regarding the numbers of incidents happened in India. The students understanding the need of nuclear power and government stand for conducting nuclear tests.

During the whole movie, the students overwhelmed with the patriotic emotions. It is sort of recreation activity conducted by the department to transmit the nationalist values among the students.
