Objective of the workshop/seminar/activity: To make the students oriented with proceeding of Parliament, the way to present the call attention motion on urgent public issues and how the voting will conducted in Parliament.
Summary/Description (max 500 words):
Department of Political Science under the aegis of IIS University organized the Youth Parliament. It was initated by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India under the Scheme of National Youth Parliament Competition in Universities/Colleges throughout the country. The aim of the youth parliament is to strengthen the roots of democracy, inculcate healthy habits of discipline, tolerance of the views of others and to enable the student community to understand the working of our Parliamentary institutions.
In this event 70 students participated and they successfully tried to create the look of real Parliament. The seating arrangement was made as per the provisions of the Parliament. On the right side of Speaker the ruling party, with PM on the extreme right and on the left side the opposition party with Deputy Speaker on the extreme left followed by Leader of Opposition. The role of Speaker, Deputy Speaker, PM, Leader of Opposition, Secretary General etc. was played by the students very successfully. The members of Youth Parliament wore the dresses of different states and presented a real look of National Parliament. The items like ‘Oath by New Members’, ‘condolence to sudden demise of members of parliament’, ‘Introduction to New Ministers by PM’, ‘Breach of Privilege’, ‘Question Hour’, ‘Papers to be Laid’, ‘zero Hour’, ‘Vote of No Confidence’ etc were presented in this Youth Parliament.
The programme started with the welcome note and judge introduction. The HOD Dr.Archana Gupta welcome the Judges of programme .Dr. Ruchi Jain (HOD of Department of Business Studies),Dr. Mona Vyas (HOD of Department of Public Administration) and Miss Harshita Sharma were the judges of the event. The parliamentary proceeding starts with the arrival of speaker. Paridhi Jain (Speaker), Arzoo Yadav(apposition member),Pallavi Sah (Ministry of Health),Tansi Goyal (Finance Minister) ,Harshita Kularia (Opposition member) raised question on important issues like Quality Education, Food Reserves, Railway Accidents, Position of Migrants of J&K, Defence Modernization etc. Breach of Privileges was carried by Anushka Sharma and the speaker decided to consider it later. Ms Chaitnaya, member of Opposition criticized the government for its failure on all fronts of administration especially on economic fronts to check price rise, inflation and to bring back Indian money from the foreign banks. She said on one hand Price Rise and on the other hand Scams scandals exploiting the common people. Speaking on the motion, Tansi Goyal (Minister of Finance), made every attempt to defend the government. She talked about the need to look economic issues from wider prospective. She argued the strong economic fundamentals of Indian Economy
After the lunch break, the call attention motion was taken by Asma Khan ( opposition leader) . Diya Chauhan (Minister of State for Home) answered all the question raised by opposition party. The central theme of Youth Parliament was UCC Bill which was presented by Bhuvneshwari (Law Minister) . The influential speech of Kirti Nagpal (Prime Minister) washed away all the charges of opposition
The long discussion was carried by both the side .In the end, through the voice vote commence by the speaker, the UCC Bill passed with majority. The ruling party celebrated it with thumping of dusk. Finally with National Anthem, Speaker adjourned the house.
Jury selected 5 category to award the students .On this occasion, Dr.Ashok Gupta ,chancellor IIS(Deemed To Be University), felicitated the students who named under category of -best delegator, best researcher ,best articulating speaker ,best speaker , honorable mention congratulated and also encouraged the students to participate more in such activities.
