Objective of the Activity: The event was planned to educate students about this crucial period in India’s political history and to encourage critical thinking on the importance of democracy and civil liberties.

Summary/Description:

Report on Emergency (1975-1977)

25^th June 1975, India marks the Emergency Period is considered one of the most controversial chapters in Indian political history. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of Emergency under Article 352 of the Indian constitution, citing internal disturbances. The proclamation lasted for about 21 months, until 21^st March 1977. During this time, fundamental rights were curtailed, political opposition was suppressed, and strict censorship was imposed on the press.

 The event held on 6^th August’25 and organized because as this Emergency period serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding constitutional rights and democratic freedoms of future generations. This period created fear among citizens and weakened democratic institutions. In 1977, elections were held, and Indira Gandhi’s government was defeated, proving the strength of democracy in India.
